3.2 Pre-Installation Tasks
Before installing Unoverica Message Transport, you must update the naming services in use
on your network. There are two specific areas that must be dealt with prior to installation:
- Create the SYS:/ETC/SERVICES database file if it does not exist, and add the
SMTP and POP3 mail services to it. If you are also installing SMTP and POP3
mail software on your network clients, then you will probably need to add this
information to those systems as well. For more information on how to
accomplish this, refer to section 3.2.1 Update the SERVICES Database.
- If DNS is in use on your network, then you must also add Message Exchange
(MX) entries to the DNS servers responsible for this network. This will ensure
that mail messages are delivered to the server that is hosting the Unoverica
Message Transport SMTP mail service. For more information on this subject,
refer to section 3.2.2 Add MX Records to the DNS Server.
For more information about the different naming services used with TCP/IP, refer to Appendix
C: Name Resolution Services.
STEP: To continue to the next step in the installation process, go to section 3.2.1 Update the
SERVICES Database.
