3.3.1 Extract the Installation Files
Unoverica Message Transport is normally delivered in a self-extracting archive called
UCM.EXE. In order to install Unoverica Message Transport, you must extract the files in the
UCM.EXE archive to a location which is accessible to the NetWare INSTALL.NLM utility.
There are three locations which are commonly used for these files:
- A temporary directory on the server, such as a SYS:/TEMP directory or the like.
By extracting these files to a local volume on the server, installation time is
reduced dramatically, and the server's floppy drive does not get accessed. This
is the destination recommended by Unoverica Corporation. For more
information about these options, refer to section 3.3.1.1 Extracting to the Server.
- A temporary directory on a local workstation which is capable of acting as a
remote installation system using NetWare's INSTALL.NLM. By extracting the
files to a local workstation, installation time is still quick, and the server's
floppy drive does not get accessed. However, this method is not as fast as
installing directly from the server's local drives, and also requires that you meet
all of the requirements for installing software from a remote workstation. For
more information about using remote workstations to install Unoverica
Message Transport, refer to section 3.3.1.2 Extracting to a Workstation.
- A floppy diskette which can be used on the destination NetWare server.
Although a NetWare server can install software from a floppy diskette, this
method is not recommended by Unoverica Corporation. Because of NetWare's
architecture, using the floppy drive on the server puts a drain on the system, and
it is possible that users will get disconnected from the server. Do not use this
method unless you absolutely cannot use one of the other two. For more
information on this subject, refer to section 3.3.1.3 Extracting to a Floppy
Diskette.
STEP: Choose one of the installation scenarios listed above, and then go to section 3.3.1.1
Extracting to the Server, section 3.3.1.2 Extracting to a Workstation, or section 3.3.1.3 Extracting
to a Floppy Diskette.
