3.3.1.1 Extracting to the Server

By extracting the installation files to a volume on the server, installation time is reduced dramatically, and the server's floppy drive does not get accessed. This is the installation method recommended by Unoverica Corporation.

  1. From a workstation on the local network, login to the NetWare server which will be hosting Unoverica Message Transport.

  2. Create a temporary directory on any volume that you have access rights to. Since the installation procedure will be executed at the server console, you do not need to make this directory accessible to anybody but yourself. It is only needed by you (to expand the self-extracting archive) and the installation process.

  3. Copy the UCM.EXE archive to the directory created in step 2 above, and then execute the UCM.EXE program. The necessary files will be created in the current directory.

NOTE: If the SECURE CONSOLE command has been executed on the server - and the temporary directory created in step 2 above is not already in the server's search path - then the server must be restarted without the SECURE CONSOLE command prior to installation. Rather than restart the server, you may wish to extract the UCM.EXE archive into another directory that is already in the server's search path (such as SYS:/SYSTEM).

NOTE: When the installation process has been completed, you can delete the files in the temporary directory you created in step 2 above, as well as the directory itself.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the installation process, go to section 3.3.2 Using NetWare's INSTALL.NLM.
