3.3.1.2 Extracting to a Workstation

You may extract the installation files to a local workstation, where they will be accessible to NetWare's INSTALL.NLM over the network. However, there are four requirements that must be met in order for this procedure to work properly:

  1. You must be running NetWare 4.x or higher. The version of the INSTALL.NLM utility that ships with NetWare 3.x does not support installing software over the network.

  2. You must be using the INETCFG utility to manage your LAN drivers and protocols.

  3. You must have enabled the "Remote Access" and "Remote Installation" options under the "Configure Remote Access to this Server" menu in INETCFG.

  4. You must use RCONSOLE from the same workstation on which you are storing the installation files to establish a console connection to the destination server, and then run the INSTALL.NLM utility over the RCONSOLE connection.

Because of these prerequisites, Unoverica Corporation recommends that you extract the files to the server's volume as described in section 3.3.1.1 Extracting to the Server. If you still wish to install the software using this method, follow these steps:

  1. From a workstation on the local network, login to the NetWare 4.x or IntranetWare server which will be hosting Unoverica Message Transport.

  2. Create a temporary directory on the local workstation's drive.

  3. Copy the UCM.EXE archive to the directory created in step 2 above, and then execute the UCM.EXE program. The necessary files will be created in the current directory.

  4. Load the RCONSOLE utility, and connect to the server you chose in step 1 above.

NOTE: When the installation process has been completed, you can delete the files in the temporary directory you created in step 2 above, as well as the directory itself.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the installation process, go to section 3.3.2 Using NetWare's INSTALL.NLM.
