3.3.1.3 Extracting to a Floppy Diskette

Although a NetWare server can install software from a floppy diskette, this method is not recommended by Unoverica Corporation. Because of NetWare's architecture, using the floppy drive on the server puts a tremendous drain on the system, and it is possible that users will get disconnected from the server during the installation process. Do not use this method unless you absolutely cannot use the methods described in section 3.3.1.1 Extracting to the Server or section 3.3.1.2 Extracting to a Workstation.

NOTE: DOS must be resident on the server in order to install from a floppy drive. If the REMOVE DOS or SECURE CONSOLE commands have been executed on the server console, then the server must be restarted without these commands prior to installation.

If you still wish to install the software using this method, follow these steps:

  1. From a workstation on the local network, format a blank 1.44 MB or 1.2 MB floppy disk.

  2. Copy the UCM.EXE archive to the floppy disk created in step 1 above, and then execute the UCM.EXE program. The necessary files will be created in the current directory.

  3. Remove the floppy disk and insert it into the floppy drive on the destination server.

NOTE: When the installation process has been completed, you can delete the files on the floppy disk, or destroy and reuse the diskette if necessary.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the installation process, go to section 3.3.2 Using NetWare's INSTALL.NLM.
