4.3.1 Adding a New User

If you are adding a new user to the directory, press <Ins>. You will then be presented with a dialog box that allows you to define the mail-specific attributes of that user, similar to the one shown in Figure 4.23 below:

Figure 4.23 UCMCON's user detail form.

The fields that you will need to define will depend on the type of user that you are creating. For more information on the fields in this form, refer to section G.3 Managing Unoverica Message Transport User Accounts.

If this user is local to the NetWare server or NDS tree, then you should:

  1. Define the "Mail Name" and "Login Name" fields to be the same as the NetWare login name.

  2. Define the "OS Name" field as either the NetWare login name as defined in the NetWare bindery (on NetWare 3.x servers), or as the fully-qualified user name as defined in NDS (on NetWare 4.x servers).

  3. Define the "Mailbox" field to be the same as the NetWare user's 8-digit bindery identifier.

  4. Enable the "Active" flag.

NOTE: Synchronizing the directory (as detailed in section 4.2 Synchronizing NetWare Accounts with Unoverica Message Transport's Directory) automates this entire process for you, and should be used when possible to prevent errors.

If the user does not already exist in the NetWare bindery or NDS tree, then you should:

  1. Define the "Mail Name" and "Login Name" fields as the user's mail account name.

  2. Define a password for the user. The password field must not be left blank, or else the account will be disabled.

  3. Define an 8-digit mailbox name for the user. ".MBX" will be appended to the 8-digit mailbox name you define here, and a file will be created by that name in the directory specified by the "Location of mailbox directory (+MAILBOXDIR)" option.

  4. Enable the "Active" flag.

Once you have finished, press <Esc> to close the form. The user is created in the directory, and will be able to send and receive mail immediately.

STEP: If you need to add another user account to the directory, repeat the steps listed above. If you need to modify an existing user account, go to section 4.3.2 Modifying an Existing User. If you need to disable or delete a user account, go to section 4.3.3 Disabling a User. To continue the configuration process, go to section 4.4 Managing Alias Accounts.
