2.3.1.4 Bind and Configure TCP/IP

From the main INETCFG menu, select the "Bindings" menu option and press <Enter>. You will be presented with a screen showing all of the currently bound protocols and adapters, similar to the one shown in Figure 2.14 below:

NOTE: Do not enable any options or change any settings beyond those specified here unless you are explicitly requested to do so by a recognized network authority, such as another system administrator at your site, a trusted consultant, or your Internet Service Provider.

The following steps bind TCP/IP to the LAN adapter:

From the list of bound protocols, press <Ins> and select TCP/IP from the list of available protocols and press <Enter> to continue.
You will then be presented with a list of all the available LAN drivers. Select the LAN driver you defined in the configuration worksheet, and press <Enter> to continue.

At this point you will be required to configure the IP address and subnet mask for this binding. You will be presented with a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 2.15 below:

The following steps describe how to assign an IP address and subnet mask to a network adapter. They do not address any of the name resolution issues. It is assumed that you have already enabled the TCP/IP protocol as described in section 2.3.1.2 Enable TCP/IP.

From the "Binding TCP/IP to a LAN Interface" menu, select the "Local IP Address" menu option and press <Enter>. Type in the IP address for this system as detailed in the configuration worksheet. Press <Enter> to finish.
Select the "Subnetwork Mask" menu option and press <Enter>. Type in the subnet mask for this system as detailed in the configuration worksheet. Press <Enter> to finish. Note that NetWare does not use decimal notation for the subnet mask by default, but instead uses hexadecimal notation (ie, "FF" equals 255). If you are familiar with hexadecimal notation and are comfortable using it, then you may do so. However, NetWare supports decimal notation just as well, so you should probably use decimal notation here.
Press <Esc> to close the "Binding TCP/IP to a LAN Interface" window. You will be prompted to save the changes, which you should do. Press <Esc> again to close the list of bound protocols and return to INETCFG's main screen.
