2.3.2 Using Console Commands

For older systems such as NetWare 3.1x, you cannot use INETCFG unless you also have Novell's Multi-Protocol Router, NetWare for SAA or another advanced communications product. In this case, you must load the LAN drivers and TCP/IP manually, and then bind them together.

There are several steps that you must take in order to successfully configure and start the TCP/ IP protocols using console commands:

  1. Load the LAN driver for the network adapter, using a frame type for TCP/IP. For more information on this subject, refer to section 2.3.2.1 Load the LAN Driver.

  2. Load the TCP/IP protocol and specify the routing service to use. For more information on this subject, refer to section 2.3.2.2 Load the TCP/IP Protocol.

  3. Bind the TCP/IP protocol to the LAN driver. For more information on this subject, refer to section 2.3.2.3 Bind the TCP/IP Protocol to the LAN Driver.

Once these steps have been completed, the TCP/IP stack should be operating correctly.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the configuration process, go to section 2.3.2.1 Load the LAN Driver.
