4.4.2.2 Managing Alias Recipients
Once an alias has been defined, you can manage the recipients of that alias. You can:
4.4.2.2.1 Adding Alias Recipients
In order for an alias account to function, you must add at least one alias recipient, indicating
the user account(s) that are to receive mail sent to the alias account. To add a new recipient to
an alias, select the alias account you wish to modify and press <Ins>. You will then be
presented with a menu similar to the one shown in Figure 4.37 below:
Figure 4.37 UCMCON's alias create menu.
|
Select the "Add Alias" menu option, and press <Enter>. You will then be presented with a form
similar to the one shown in Figure 4.38 below:
Figure 4.38 Adding a new recipient to an existing alias.
|
You can define three different types of recipient address:
- RFC-822 e-mail address. You can define a standard RFC-822 e-mail address,
referencing either a local user account or alias, or the e-mail address of a remote
user or alias. Unoverica Message Transport allows alias accounts to refer to
other aliases, so as long as the destination e-mail address is valid, it is
acceptable.
- Forced delivery to a user account. If an alias has the same name as a local user's
"Mail Name", then you can force delivery of incoming mail to the user account
(bypassing the alias) by preceding the Mail Name with a backslash "\". For
example, to force mail sent to the "FRED" alias to go to the mail account named
"FRED", define the alias recipient account as "\FRED". This feature is useful
for executives who have copies of their mail sent to themselves and their
secretaries. Refer to section G.6 In-Bound Mail Delivery Precedence for more
information on delivery precedence.
- An external list of destination accounts. If you wish to send mail to several
recipients, then you may wish to reference an external text file instead of adding
multiple recipients to the alias account. By using the ":include:" statement
followed by a valid NetWare path and filename, any mail sent to the alias
account will get sent to all of the e-mail addresses listed in that text file. The
included text file should contain valid RFC-822 e-mail addresses, one per line.
Once you have added the recipient account(s), press <Enter> and then press <Esc> to close the
edit box.
4.4.2.2.2 Modifying Alias Recipients
To modify an existing alias recipient, select it from the list of alias recipients shown in Figure
4.38, and press <Enter>.
4.4.2.2.3 Deleting Alias Recipients
To modify an existing alias recipient, select it from the list of alias recipients shown in Figure
4.38, and press <Del>. Unlike alias accounts, you cannot disable an alias recipient, but must
delete it completely in order for it to be disabled.
STEP: If you need to manage another alias recipient, repeat the steps described above. If you
need to manage aliases stored in external text files, go to section 4.4.3 Managing External Alias
Files. To continue the configuration process, go to section 4.4.4 Modifying the System
Management Alias Accounts.
