Unoverica Message Transport uses many of the NetWare operating system’s advanced features, and as such depends heavily on the operating system and protocol services provided by NetWare. Specifically, Unoverica Message Transport requires the following software components be installed prior to the installation of Unoverica Message Transport:
In addition to the core versions of NetWare and related components, some additional system patches may be required in order for Unoverica Message Transport to perform efficiently. The NetWare operating system is constantly being improved and enhanced by Novell, and some of these updates must be installed in order for Unoverica Message Transport to function properly. For more information about the system patches required by Unoverica Message Transport, refer to section 1.2.1.1 Mandatory NetWare System Patches. For information on how to obtain and apply the necessary system updates, refer to section 1.2.4 Obtaining Updates and Patch Kits.
Also, regardless of whether or not you need to apply any system patches, you will still need to define some NetWare system variables so that Unoverica Message Transport functions properly. For more information about these variables, refer to section 1.2.5 Optimizing the Server.
NOTE: Some of the required modifications listed in this chapter will require that you restart the server. Do not begin the installation process or apply any system updates until you are able to restart the server without interrupting user sessions or critical system functions.
WARNING: If the NetWare server you wish to use for Unoverica Message Transport does not meet the minimum system requirements specified in this chapter, you will encounter problems during the installation or operation of Unoverica Message Transport. These problems may be minor annoyances, a lack of expected functionality (such as mail messages not getting delivered successfully), or total system failure resulting in lost data.
