Unoverica Message Transport offers SMTP mail services as well as support for POP3 electronic mail clients such as Eudora and Netscape Communicator. Organizations or departments who wish to use Internet-standard mail protocols for their local users will typically utilize all of Unoverica Message Transports features, as illustrated in Figure 1.7 below.

Figure 1.7: Local users access Unoverica Message Transport's POP3 and SMTP server directly, using Eudora or Netscape mail clients.
If you plan to have 25 or less POP3 users, then you will need approximately 8 megabytes of RAM for the mail servers to run successfully. If you plan to have more than 25 users, you should use the minimum memory requirements outlined in section 1.3.3 Scenario 3: Complex SMTP/POP3 Installation. If you are providing mail services to users of other Internet domains, or if you plan to make extensive use of alias accounts, or if you plan to make extensive use of the distribution list features, then you may wish to double or even triple these requirements, or you may wish to use the minimum memory requirements defined in section 1.3.4 Scenario 4: Extremely Complex SMTP/POP3 Installation.
In addition, you will need to reserve approximately 100 megabytes of disk space for the mail system executables, databases, temporary files, and end-user mail files. If you will be transferring large amounts of mail over a slow connection, then you may wish to increase this amount by as much as 100 megabytes, depending on the SMTP traffic level. You may also wish to adjust these disk space requirements according to your specific needs. For more information about the per-user disk space requirements, refer to section 1.3.5 Per-User Disk Space Requirements.
NOTE: These requirements are above and beyond the minimum requirements for NetWare and any services also running on the same server that is also hosting Unoverica Message Transport.
WARNING: If the NetWare server you wish to use for Unoverica Message Transport does not meet the minimum system requirements specified in this chapter, you will encounter problems during the installation or operation of Unoverica Message Transport. These problems may be minor annoyances, a lack of expected functionality (such as mail messages not getting delivered successfully), or total system failure resulting in lost data.
STEP: To continue to the next step in the verification process, go to section 1.3.5 Per-User Disk Space Requirements.
