Unoverica Message Transport offers SMTP mail services as well as support for POP3 electronic mail clients such as Eudora and Netscape Communicator. Organizations who have committed to Internet-standards and technologies typically make heavy use of the extended features found in Unoverica Message Transport. This includes the account alias database, group mailing lists, and mail distribution lists. Since these features all require memory in order to function properly, heavy users will need significant amounts of memory in order for the software to perform as expected. Figure 1.9 below illustrates an example of an extremely complex installation.

Figure 1.9: Local users access Unoverica Message Transport's POP3 and SMTP server directly, while also exchanging mail with other local servers, managing large mailing lists, and otherwise burdening the mail system.
If you plan to have more than 100 POP3 mail users on your system, then you will need approximately 32 megabytes of RAM for the mail servers to run successfully. If you plan to have less than 100 users, you should use the minimum memory requirements outlined in section 1.3.3 Scenario 3: Complex SMTP/POP3 Installation.
In addition, you will need to reserve approximately 1 gigabyte of disk space for the mail system executables, databases, temporary files, and end-user mail files. If you will be transferring large amounts of mail over a slow connection, then you may wish to increase this amount by as much as 100 megabytes, depending on the SMTP traffic level. You may also wish to adjust these disk space requirements according to your specific needs. For more information about the per-user disk space requirements, refer to section 1.3.5 Per-User Disk Space Requirements.
NOTE: These requirements are above and beyond the minimum requirements for NetWare and any services also running on the same server that is also hosting Unoverica Message Transport.
WARNING: If the NetWare server you wish to use for Unoverica Message Transport does not meet the minimum system requirements specified in this chapter, you will encounter problems during the installation or operation of Unoverica Message Transport. These problems may be minor annoyances, a lack of expected functionality (such as mail messages not getting delivered successfully), or total system failure resulting in lost data.
STEP: To continue to the next step in the verification process, go to section 1.3.5 Per-User Disk Space Requirements.
