2.2.3 Determine the IP Protocol Information

In order for the TCP/IP protocol to operate correctly, you must configure it. In particular, there are three attributes that must be configured in order for the TCP/IP protocol to function. These three attributes are:

  1. An IP address for the device. For more information about how to choose an IP address for the NetWare server, refer to section 2.2.3.1 Choose an IP Address.

  2. A subnet mask that reflects the network addressing in use on the local network. For more information about how to determine the appropriate subnet mask for the NetWare server, refer to section 2.2.3.2 Choose a Subnet mask.

  3. The routing protocol to use and related details. For more information about how to determine the appropriate routing protocol for the NetWare server, refer to section 2.2.3.3 Choose a Routing Service.

For more information about the TCP/IP protocol suite, refer to Appendix B: TCP/IP-In-Depth.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the configuration process, go to section 2.2.3.1 Choose an IP Address.
