Chapter 2: Configuring TCP/IP
2.3.1.3 Add a Default Route
From the main INETCFG menu, select the "Static Routing Table" menu option and press <Enter>. You will be presented with a list of all of the static routes currently configured on this system. Press <Ins> to add a new route. You will be presented with a screen similar to the following:
Figure 2.13: INETCFG's Static Route Configuration settings.
NOTE: Do not enable any options or change any settings beyond those specified here unless you are explicitly requested to do so by a recognized network authority, such as another system administrator at your site, a trusted consultant, or your Internet Service Provider.
The following steps configure a default route for this server:
- Press <Enter> on the "Route to Network or Host" menu option, and select "Default Route" from the list presented. If "Default Route" is not available, then select "Network".
- If you were unable to select "Default Route" in the previous step, then enter "0.0.0.0" in the "IP Address of Network/Host:" field. An IP address of "0.0.0.0" means all hosts on all networks, and is essentially the same as a default route.
- Scroll down to the "Next Hop Router on Route:" menu item, and type in the IP address of the default router specified in the configuration worksheet. Press <Enter> to finish editing this field.
- Press <Esc> to close the "Static Route Configuration" window, and press <Esc> again to close the "TCP/IP Static Routes" window. You will be prompted to save the changes, which you should do.
- Press <Esc> to close the "TCP/IP Protocol Configuration" window. You will be prompted to save the changes, which you should do. Press <Esc> again to close the "Protocol Configuration" window, returning you to INETCFGs main menu.
STEP: To continue to the next step in the configuration process, go to section 2.3.1.4 Bind and Configure TCP/IP.
