Chapter 2: Configuring TCP/IP

2.3.2.3 Bind the TCP/IP Protocol to the LAN Driver

Once the LAN driver and TCP/IP have been loaded, then you can bind the TCP/IP protocol to the LAN driver.

The options for binding the TCP/IP protocol are as follows:

:BIND IP TO (Name) ADDR=(IP Address) MASK=(Subnet mask) GATE=(Default Route) <Enter>

Refer to the configuration worksheet to determine the name you assigned to the LAN driver instance with the ETHERNET_II frame type, the IP address and subnet mask you wish to use for this system, and the default route for this network. If you will be using the RIP routing protocol, you do not need to assign a default route manually.

An example command that uses information from the sample worksheet would appear as:

:BIND IP TO SMC-TCPIP ADDR=192.168.1.20 MASK=255.255.255.0 GATE=192.168.1.1 <Enter>

This command would bind TCP/IP to the instance of the SMC8000 LAN driver that we loaded in section 2.3.2.1 Load the LAN Driver, using the IP address of 192.168.1.20, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, and a default route of 192.168.1.1. Since the system in the sample worksheet uses static routing, we have to specify a default route for this adapter to use.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the configuration process, go to section 2.4 Updating the Naming Services.
