3.2.2 Add MX Records to the DNS Server

If you are using DNS on your network or if you are connected to the global Internet, then you should add Mail Exchange ("MX") records for this host, and optionally for your domain, to the DNS server responsible for this network.

MX records allow mail servers to accept mail for other systems and for an entire domain. You should create at least one MX record for the local server.

Since a wide variety of DNS servers run on an equally wide variety of platforms, it is impossible to describe how to accomplish this task with any measure of accuracy. You should contact the system administrator, consultant, or service provider responsible for managing the DNS servers for your network and request that they add an explicit MX record for this host to the DNS server. You will need to provide them with the IP address, hostname and domain name of this server.

Additionally, if this mail server will be the primary SMTP mail server for your domain, then you should also request that an MX record be created for the domain, referencing the hostname of this server.

For more information about MX records and DNS, refer to section C.3.2.2 "MX" Records.

STEP: To continue to the next step in the installation process, go to section 3.3 Installing Unoverica Message Transport.
