An alias account allows users to send mail to a virtual user that does not actually exist on the mail system. Mail sent to the alias account is redirected to other accounts, which can consist of:
Aliases can be used to redirect mail to a single user, or they can be used to redirect mail to a large group of users on a variety of different systems. For example, your organization may wish to send mail to a select group of suppliers, but rather than enter each recipients mail address into each message, it would be easier and more accurate to simply send mail to an alias account called "suppliers". This alias would then expand to include all of the recipients, but would still appear as being addressed to "suppliers" instead of to the individual recipients.
