Chapter 4: Managing Mail Accounts

4.4.1 Changing the Location of the Alias File

Unoverica Message Transport can support multiple alias files simultaneously, incorporating aliases defined in the internal directory, and it can also use aliases found in multiple external text files. Administrators in mixed networking environments can share the external text files among the various systems in use on their network, provided that the other systems support the standard SENDMAIL alias file format, and can read the NetWare server’s filesystem.

The location of the alias database you wish to use is managed through the use of Unoverica Message Transport’s UCMCON.NLM management tool. To load UCMCON, type the following command at the NetWare console prompt:

:LOAD UCMCON <Enter>

You will be presented with a screen similar to the following:

Select the "Configuration" menu item and press <Enter>. You will then be presented with a set of configuration menu choices similar to the following:

Select the "Options" menu option and press <Enter>. You will then be presented with a list of the currently defined options, similar to the following:

Use the <Up>, <Dn>, <PgUp> and <PgDn> keys to scroll through the list of currently-defined options, looking for an entry titled "Alias File Location (OA)". If this option is not listed, press <Ins> to display a list of the undefined options. You will be presented with a screen similar to the following:

If the "Use Directory (+Directory)" option was not available in the list of currently-defined options, then select it from the list of undefined options and press <Enter>. If the "Use Directory (+Directory)" option was already in the list of currently-defined options, then select it from that list and press <Enter>. You should see a screen similar to the following:

The default setting of "INTERNAL:ALIASES" indicates that the ALIAS database is to be read from Unoverica Message Transport’s internal directory. This directory is managed with the UCMCON utility.

You may also point this option to a text file on your NetWare server. This may be desirable if you share an alias database with other SENDMAIL-based mail systems, such as those running on UNIX or Windows NT. To use a file for the alias database, you must use the "STAB:vol:/path/filename" format. For example, to use a file called ALIASES in the SYS:/USR/LIB/MAIL directory, you would enter the following into the edit box:

When you are finished editing the option, press <Esc> and you will be returned to the list of currently-defined options shown in Figure 4.28. If you need to define additional alias files, repeat the process outlined above.

For more information about the "Alias File Location (OA)" option, refer to section F.2.3 Alias file location (OA).

STEP: If you wish to add aliases to the internal directory, go to section 4.4.2 Managing Internal Aliases. If you wish to add aliases to an external text file, go to section 4.4.3Managing External Alias. To continue the configuration process, go to section 4.4.4 Modifying the System Management Alias Accounts.
