Since Unoverica Message Transport provides an SMTP and POP3 server, you can use it as a fully-functional mail server for your organizations Internet and local mail needs. Unoverica Message Transport is pre-configured to support local and remote delivery of SMTP mail, although by default it will attempt to connect with external sites directly. If you will be using an Internet Service Provider or other external system to relay mail to remote networks, then you must define a configuration option that specifies where to send all non-local mail.
Essentially, any mail message sent to a user on the local mail server will be handled locally and delivered by Unoverica Message Transport. However, any mail message sent to another mail server on a different network will be forwarded to a relay host you define, which will then deliver the mail on your behalf.
This is achieved through the use of Unoverica Message Transports UCMCON.NLM management tool. To load UCMCON, type the following command at the NetWare console prompt:
:LOAD UCMCON <Enter>
You will be presented with a screen similar to the following:

Figure 5.18: UCMCON's main menu
Select the "Configuration" menu item and press <Enter>. You will then be presented with a set of configuration menu choices similar to the following:

Figure 5.19: UCMCON's Configuration menu.
Select the "Macros" menu item and press <Enter>. You will then be presented with a set of user-definable macros similar to the following:

Figure 5.20: UCMCON's currently-defined macros.
Use the <PgDn> key to scroll to the bottom of the list of currently-defined macros and select the "User-defined macro $S (DS)" item and press <Enter>. You will be presented with an edit box for adding a new entry to the $S macro, similar to the following:

Figure 5.21: Defining the $S macro.
Provide the hostname or IP address of the relay mail server in this edit box. You will need to obtain this information from the administrator of that mail server.
"Macros" are used by SENDMAIL (and derivatives of SENDMAIL such as Unoverica Message Transport) to define variables that can be used throughout the system configuration. For more information on SENDMAIL macros, refer to section F.3 Defining Macros. For more information on the $S macro, refer to section F.3.14 User-defined macro $S (DS).
NOTE: If you provide a hostname in this field, then the local NetWare server must have an IP address for that hostname in the local SYS:/ETC/HOSTS database, or it must have access to a DNS server that can resolve the hostname whenever a mail message is being sent. Otherwise, you will need to provide an IP address in this field.
Press <Esc> to close the edit box, and continue pressing <Esc> until you are returned to the NetWare console prompt. Mail for non-local recipients will begin to be forwarded to the relay host specified.
NOTE: Depending on how your network is connected to your Internet Service Provider or relay site, mail may or may not be sent immediately. If your network is connected to the external site through full-time or on-demand router, then mail will be sent immediately. If not, then you may have to initiate a connection manually, or you may need to setup an on-demand connection in order to have outbound mail processed on a timely basis.
STEP: To continue to the next step in the configuration process, go to section 5.3.2 Configuring the External Site to Send Waiting Mail.
