Chapter 6: Advanced Configuration Options
6.3.1 Relocating the POP3 and SMTP Mail Directories
By default, Unoverica Message Transport uses the following two directories for queuing SMTP and POP3 mail:
- SYS:/USR/SPOOL/MAIL. This directory is used to store POP3 mail for the locally-defined POP3 users on this mail system. If any users have a POP3 mail account, then their POP3 mail is stored in this directory until it is retrieved. You can move this directory anywhere you wish, although you cannot put the individual mail files in separate directories; they must stay together.
- SYS:/USR/SPOOL/MQUEUE. This directory is used to store any in-bound and out-bound mail that has not yet been delivered. For example, if several mail messages have been generated and the SMTP client has not been able to successfully deliver them yet, then they are stored here until they are delivered. You can move this directory anywhere you choose.
NOTE: You may combine both directories into a single directory if you wish.
WARNING: If you choose to relocate these directories, you must inform Unoverica Message Transport of the new location so that it can deliver mail successfully. If you do not inform Unoverica Message Transport of the new locations, it will continue to look in the default directories.
To move the directories, follow these steps:
- Stop and unload the Unoverica Message Transport mail server. For more information on how to do this, refer to section 3.4 Starting and Stopping Unoverica Message Transport.
- Create the new queue directories. Unoverica Message Transport will not create these directories for you. Failing to create these directories prior to restarting Unoverica Message Transport may result in irretrievably lost mail messages.
- Inform Unoverica Message Transport of the new location of the queue directories. For more information on this subject, refer to section 6.3.1.1 Updating the Queue Directory Location Options.
- Restart the Unoverica Message Transport mail server. For more information on how to do this, refer to section 3.4 Starting and Stopping Unoverica Message Transport.
STEP: To continue with the configuration process, go to section 3.4 Starting and Stopping Unoverica Message Transport for instructions on how to stop Unoverica Message Transport. Then create the new queue directories, and then go to section 6.3.1.1 Updating the Queue Directory Location Options.
