G.1 Unoverica Message Transport User Accounts

The most common type of mail account is a "user" account which can send and receive mail over Unoverica Message Transport. However, there are other types of mail accounts that can send and receive mail, although they may not be a "user" account.

After successfully installing and configuring Unoverica Message Transport, any users who are defined on the local NetWare server – or any users in the NDS tree who are accessible via the server’s bindery context – can receive mail at that postoffice immediately, and can send mail to any other user that can be found in the NetWare server’s bindery or in the NDS tree. By referencing the NetWare user accounts, Unoverica Message Transport provides immediate functionality and gratification to the users of the mail system.

However, administrators do not have much control over the mail-specific attributes of the users that are stored in NetWare’s bindery, or even those stored in NDS. For example, all of the NetWare user accounts will automatically use the domain name associated with the mail server, and cannot use an alternate domain name on a per-user basis. In addition, any users who are not found in the bindery or in NDS cannot use Unoverica Message Transport as their mail server, as they will not have valid accounts on the local system. Essentially, Unoverica Message Transport uses the NetWare directory for mailbox management and POP3 authentication services, providing immediate functionality to existing NetWare users, but providing no functionality to any other users.

For this reason, Unoverica Message Transport also provides its own internal directory that allows you to create and manage mail-specific user information. By storing user account information in Unoverica Message Transport’s directory, you gain much more control over the user accounts as they apply to mail.

User accounts can be found in three distinct locations:
