The output file generated by the export command and the input file used by the import command has a fairly simple format. Each record in the directory is represented by a set of tab- or comma-delimited fields that match the user account fields in the directory. All of the records follow this format, even if they do not use the fields directly.
Each line in the output file contains whatever data was stored with the associated record in the directory. Although not all of the record types use all of these fields, they are all represented in the output file, allowing for consistent editing in a spreadsheet or the like. Figure G.14 below lists the fields that are exported with the records, and indicates whether or not data is placed into those fields during the export process.

All record types use the Mail Name field for their destination recipient. Only user account records have fields that indicate the location of the mailbox, or the POP3 authentication data, as aliases and alias recipients do not have mailboxes.
