G.6 In-Bound Mail Delivery Precedence

Mail that is sent to the Unoverica Message Transport mail server is delivered according to the following precedence:

  1. Internal alias database. The recipient address marked in the incoming mail is first checked against the internal aliases stored in Unoverica Message Transport’s directory, if it exists.

  2. External alias files: If no match is found in the internal alias database, or if the "Alias File Location (OA)" option indicates that an external alias file is to be used, then the mail system will attempt to locate a recipient using aliases stored in those files.

  3. "Ext Name:" field. If no alias can be found in the various alias databases, then the recipient’s address is tested against the "Ext Name" field in the directory.

  4. "Mail Name:" field. The mail system will then attempt to match the recipient against the "Mail Name" field in the directory.

  5. "OS Name:" field. Finally, the mail system will attempt to match the recipient against a user’s "OS Name". If this final test fails, the mail is marked as undeliverable and returned to the sender.
